The government of Japan has officially handed over the patrol craft “TATEYAMA” to the Maldives Customs Service.

The handover ceremony was held on Thursday and attended by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko, and senior officials from both countries.

Japan stated that the sea patrol vessel will support efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of Maldives Customs, particularly in combating illegal maritime trade and enhancing border security.

Earlier this year, Japan donated two harbour crafts to the Maldives National Defence Force to boost the operational capabilities of the Coast Guard.
