A special telethon organised by Maldivian media outlets has raised more than MVR 800,000 within the first hours of its launch, as the country rallies to support Sri Lanka in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah.

The telethon, which began at 9:00 a.m. today until 1:00 p.m., aims to mobilise public contributions to assist Sri Lanka as it grapples with the widespread devastation caused by the cyclone. In addition to the funds collected in Maldivian Rufiyaa, the designated dollar account has received over USD 1,500. 

Members of the public can donate through Bank of Maldives accounts, at PSM, or via specially placed donation boxes located across Malé City.

Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency as Cyclone Ditwah continues to affect communities, causing severe disruption and extensive damage. The Maldivian telethon forms part of a broader regional response effort to support the country during this critical period.
