Crown & Champa Resorts has donated USD 10,001 to the Ceylon Aa Eku Dhiveheen telethon to support Sri Lanka following the widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
As one of the Maldives’ largest resort operators, the company employs a significant number of Sri Lankan nationals. According to Crown & Champa Resorts, Sri Lankans make up around 25 per cent of its workforce, and the decision to contribute was made in recognition of the hardships faced by its employees’ families and communities during the crisis. The company said it wished to extend support as much as possible during this difficult time.
The telethon, launched this morning, has garnered strong public engagement. By midday, organisers reported that contributions had exceeded MVR 800,000 and USD 11,000, with donations continuing to rise. Bank of Maldives (BML)has opened special MVR and USD accounts to facilitate contributions, while QR code payment options have also been made available for easier transfers.
Donation boxes have been placed across Malé, and additional fundraising activities are being coordinated with island councils to expand participation nationwide.
Crown & Champa Resorts has a history of contributing to humanitarian causes, including previous assistance for Palestine, and has extended support once again through today’s donation.
