The Ministry of Education has announced that school uniforms will be revised from 2027, introducing new colour options and design choices as part of a broader policy update.
In remarks shared through local media, Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu said four colours have been designated for school uniforms: green, red and white – reflecting the national flag – and blue, representing the Ministry of Education. He said the decision followed growing concerns raised by schools and parents regarding the current uniform system.
According to the ministry, the changes aim to reduce uniform costs and prevent market monopolisation. Minister Dr Shafeeu noted that around 90 per cent of existing uniform components will not require alteration under the new policy.
Schools will be permitted to select the colour of the students’ shirts from white, light green or light red, while trousers will be limited to black or blue. The ministry also confirmed that the updated guidelines will introduce additional options for female students, allowing greater choice between skirts and looser-fitting clothing.
Minor adjustments will also be made to sports uniforms when the revised official attire is implemented in 2027.
