The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has confirmed that more than 30 hectares of land have now been reclaimed under the Hulhumalé Phase III project, marking significant progress in the Government’s push to ease housing pressures in the Greater Malé Region.

Reclamation works resumed on 10 August and have since accelerated with the deployment of two dredgers, including a 22,000 CBM vessel from Boskalis. Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC) is also supporting the operation. An additional dredger was brought in late last month to further hasten the pace.

The project aims to reclaim a total of 63 hectares, meaning over half the planned area has already been secured. According to HDC, the fast-track approach is intended to meet urgent housing demands across the region.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that once Phase III reclamation is completed, the dredgers will be redeployed to work on the adjacent lagoon, a task expected to take two to three months. He also announced that the reclamation of 1,100 hectares at Rasmalé is on course for completion within the next five months.

The Administration maintains that these large-scale reclamation efforts are central to its wider housing strategy for the Greater Malé area.
