Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have increased by 10.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, with over 1.5 million visitors choosing to holiday in resorts, according to new statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

The Ministry confirmed that 2,059,962 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, up from 1,871,368 arrivals recorded during the same period in 2024. Officials said the growth reflects continued demand for the Maldives as a premium holiday destination, supported by strong performance in key source markets.

In the first six days of this month alone, the country welcomed 37,901 visitors, representing a 12.4 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period last year.

China remains the Maldives’ largest source market with 316,147 arrivals, followed by Russia with 258,253 visitors. The United Kingdom ranked third with 184,785 tourists, while Germany and Italy contributed 155,309 and 134,455 visitors respectively. Each of the top five markets recorded more than 100,000 arrivals.

The ministry reported that 1.5 million of all visitors stayed in resorts, accounting for 73.6 per cent of total arrivals. Guesthouses hosted more than 400,000 tourists, while over 53,000 visitors stayed in hotels.

A total of 1,313 tourist establishments are currently operating across the Maldives, offering a combined bed capacity of 66,805 beds.

Officials noted that the consistent growth in arrivals and occupancy highlights the country’s resilience as a global tourism destination ahead of the festive season and the upcoming peak period.
