Redevelopment work on the road from the Malé local market area to the North Harbour will begin today as the second segment of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu Project carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) moves forward.
MTCC stated that the 250 metre section from the market area to the North Harbour is prepared for construction. The upgraded stretch will feature four lanes, and the company aims to complete the work before Ramadan.
During a meeting with Henveiru residents on Sunday night, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that road congestion in the Malé region remains one of the most significant concerns after housing. He noted that the market area, which is one of the most congested parts of the city, will be redeveloped and that the road will function as a two way street. At present, the main market road operates as a one way system.
The start of Segment Two follows the completion and opening of Segment One on Monday evening. Once the full scope of the project is finished, a total of 1,088 metres of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be redeveloped.
