The President announced that the Government will introduce new measures to support down payments for the 4,000 housing units developed in Hulhumalé Phase II by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), as preparations are underway to hand over the flats within the coming week.

Addressing a meeting with residents of Galolhu, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said construction work on the flats is nearing completion, with water and electricity connections currently being installed. He assured residents that the allocation process has not been altered and that the current Administration has proceeded with the handover based on the points previously awarded.

Responding to concerns over down payments, rent and other housing-related issues, the President said the Government aims to ease the financial burden on recipients. Under the current arrangements, the deposit is set at MVR 15,000 for two-room flats and MVR 25,000 for three-room flats, with significant subsidies provided to tenants who make regular payments.

The President also noted that reclamation works for Hulhumalé Phase III is nearing completion, with land use planning currently in progress. He reiterated that addressing housing challenges remains a key priority for the Administration.

He further highlighted that this is the first housing programme to include a dedicated category for elderly citizens, fulfilling a pledge made during the presidential election campaign.
