Over 60% of Maldivians back President Dr Muizzu: poll

A public opinion poll has found that more than 60 per cent of Maldivian voters approve of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s performance in office.

The survey, released by independent research organisation The Baani Centre, shows that 62 per cent of respondents either strongly approve or approve of the President’s job performance. In contrast, only 38 per cent said they either strongly disapprove or disapprove, giving the President a net approval rating of plus 24 points.

Among respondents, 21 per cent said they strongly approve of President Dr Muizzu, while 41 per cent said they approve.

The poll also recorded variations in approval across different demographic groups. Approval among female respondents stood at 64 per cent, compared to 60 per cent among males.

By age group, the highest approval was recorded among those aged 55 and above at 67 per cent, followed by those aged 35 to 54 at 66 per cent. Approval among respondents aged 25 to 34 was 57 per cent, while those aged 18 to 24 recorded an approval rating of 50 per cent.

The survey categorised urban areas as Malé and cities with populations exceeding 5,000, while islands with fewer than 5,000 residents were classified as rural. According to the findings, approval in rural areas stood at 64 per cent, compared to 58 per cent in urban areas.

The poll provides an overview of public sentiment towards President Dr Muizzu as his Administration continues its development agenda nationwide.

President Dr Muizzu has stated that his Administration is focused on aligning its policies and development priorities with the needs and expectations of residents. He has emphasised his commitment to completing development projects in line with public demand and has also become the first President to visit all inhabited islands within record time after assuming office.
