Construction has begun on an urban primary health care general practitioner (GP) clinic at Aman Udhares Tower in Hulhumalé Phase II, as part of efforts to expand access to basic health services in high-density residential areas.

The clinic is being developed at the sixth tower of Aman Udhareh under an agreement signed on the 9th December between Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) and Malé City Group of Hospitals. Under the agreement, a 6,788.43 square-foot commercial unit has been allocated to Malé City Group of Hospitals for the operation of the GP clinic.

Chief Executive Officer of Malé City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, and Managing Director of FDC, Hamdan Shakeel, visited the site to inspect the progress of construction works.

Speaking after the inspection, CEO Haleem said the GP clinic will provide a range of additional health services, including vaccinations, child development monitoring, wellness clinics, counselling services, and smoking cessation treatment. He added that services will be delivered by experienced general practitioners.

Commenting on the project, FDC Managing Director Hamdan Shakeel said the company’s objective is to ensure that residents of the Aman Udhareh towers have access to essential basic services within their residential community.

FDC stated that the space allocated for the GP clinic was handed over to Hulhumalé Hospital under the Government’s National Policy Initiative, and that no rent will be charged for the facility beyond maintenance-related costs.

A GP clinic is already operating in Hulhumalé Phase II, with the facility located at Hiyaa Tower 16 having begun 24-hour services in September last year.

As part of broader efforts to strengthen the public health system, the Government opened the first Urban Primary Health Care Centre recently in in Malé. In addition to GP clinics in the capital area, similar centres are planned to be developed in other regions of the country.
