President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the next two years will be dedicated to implementing special measures to develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

In a post shared on his official X account on Sunday, the President said the decision follows concerns raised by the business community during a meeting with SMEs held on 17 December 2025. He said the Cabinet discussed the issues raised at the meeting on Wednesday and decided on a number of measures to support the development of the SME sector.

The President said that, in addition to the announcements made at the SME meeting, the next two years have now been identified for the implementation of special measures aimed at promoting SMEs.

He noted that some of these measures will come into effect from 1 January 2026, with further details to be announced by relevant Government authorities.

During the meeting, the President addressed a number of concerns raised by the business community, reaffirming that the Government is committed to developing businesses at all levels. Following requests made by the business community at the meeting, Customs has also extended air cargo clearance services to 24 hours.
