A 371.8 kWp solar–diesel–battery hybrid power system with a 618 kWh battery storage unit is being installed on Baa Hithaadhoo to improve energy reliability and reduce reliance on diesel, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. The system is expected to save 174,480 litres of diesel per year and cut 427 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, taking a significant step toward cleaner energy generation.

The Ministry stated that the project aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s national target of achieving 33 per cent renewable energy generation by 2028, and represents an important milestone in strengthening grid stability and expanding sustainable energy infrastructure across island communities.
