More than 6,000 people have joined the People’s National Congress (PNC) over the past 20 days, Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah has said.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on MMTV’s Niulhemundhaa Khabaru programme, Falah said figures provided by the Elections Commission show the party’s total membership has now exceeded 74,000, making it the largest political party in the Maldives.
Falah noted that when President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assumed office, the PNC had approximately 3,000 registered members. Since then, more than 70,000 people have joined the party over the past two years, he said.
Commenting on the rapid growth in membership, Falah said it reflected the strong public support and popularity of the party. He attributed the increase largely to the President’s policies and long-term vision, adding that many people appreciate the Administration’s efforts to secure the country’s future.
Falah further stated that the PNC aims to expand its membership to 100,000 by the time of the upcoming Local Council Elections.
