The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched its annual road safety and awareness campaign, Rakka, aimed at promoting safer roads and fostering public responsibility.

The programme was officially inaugurated by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen at a ceremony held at the Iskandhar Building, the headquarters of MPS.

Under Rakka, police will roll out a series of awareness drives nationwide, targeting both school children and the public.

The campaign will run throughout the year, and feature initiatives such as road shows to engage communities, traffic monitoring programmes to encourage compliance, and FahiRaasthaa, a dedicated activity focusing on safe road practices.

To amplify its reach, the police have introduced the official social media hashtag #Ragalhukolla, encouraging citizens to refine responsible road use by making the right choices and sharing safety messages online.

The campaign also includes sector-specific programmes, tailored for Government employees, taxi drivers, and company drivers, alongside internal training activities for police officers themselves.

The first initiative under Rakka will kick off in Kulhudhufushi City, setting the tone for a year-long effort to strengthen road safety across the Maldives.

The event was attended by senior representatives from leading State-owned and private companies, including MTCC, HDC, Ooredoo Maldives, Island Insurance, and Sheesha.
