Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has emphasised the importance of strong collaboration between local councils and the Government to accelerate development across the islands.

Speaking at the opening of the Feydhoo-Magoodhoo constituency campaign office in Addu City, the Minister stressed that councils that engage in obstruction or hostility towards the Administration risk delaying projects that directly benefit the public.

Referring to the current Addu City Council, Minister Ihusaan said that, in his view, the council’s actions over the past two years have contributed to challenges in advancing certain Government development initiatives. He cited the example of the Maradhoo Council, noting that land for a planned police station has yet to be allocated, which has resulted in delays to the project’s implementation.

The Minister stressed that councils elected with a spirit of cooperation can deliver positive changes, improved services, and faster development. He reiterated that the role of councils is to work alongside the Government in advancing municipal services and rural development, rather than creating unnecessary conflict.
