President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to deliver his third Presidential Address on 5 February 2026.
The People’s Majlis Secretariat said the first sitting of the 2026 first term will be held on the same day, as decided by Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla. The sitting is scheduled to begin at 9.00 am.
Mandated under Article 84 of the Maldivian Constitution, the Presidential Address outlines the state of the nation and sets out the Government’s strategic priorities for the year ahead. Senior Government officials, the Chief Justice, members of the diplomatic corps and other distinguished guests are expected to attend the sitting at the People’s Majlis.
President Dr Muizzu delivered his first Presidential Address at the opening of Parliament in 2024, followed by his second address at the opening of the 2025 parliamentary session. In both addresses, he announced a number of key policies and initiatives aimed at national development and public welfare.
Prior to 2024, the day on which the Presidential Address was delivered was observed as a public holiday. However, the President’s Office announced on 18 January 2024 that the Presidential Address would no longer be designated a public holiday.
