Thaa Guraidhoo MP Hanan Mohamed Rasheed has said the opposition will fail to secure any seats in the upcoming local council elections, citing ongoing development projects and strong public support for the Government.
Speaking on MMTV’s Niulhemundha Khabaru, MP Hanan said development initiatives in the constituency were not launched as part of an election campaign but are part of long-term planning under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s leadership. He noted that projects are progressing across all three islands in the constituency, regardless of their size.
According to the MP, land reclamation required for the development of Guraidhoo Airport has been completed, while land protection works are advancing rapidly. He added that harbour development in Gaadhiffushi and beach protection works in Dhiyamigili are also currently underway.
MP Hanan said voters favour leadership that delivers tangible development and described President Dr Muizzu as a leader who meets those expectations. He pointed to the previous local council elections, where the PNC won all seats in the constituency by a wide margin, and said a similar outcome is expected this time, with no seats going to the opposition or other parties.
He also highlighted further development commitments made during the President’s most recent visit to Guraidhoo, including plans to reclaim an additional seven hectares of land to address housing needs. The project is expected to include around 100 new housing units, benefiting many families on the island.
The MP said that unlike previous administrations, which he described as making unfulfilled promises, current development projects are being realised. He added that significant work is also underway to improve health facilities across the islands in the region.
