President declares 5 February a Government holiday

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared Thursday, 5 February 2026, a Government holiday.
The declaration was made through Directive No. 3/2026, issued by the President’s Office on Tuesday. The President declared the holiday as the date on which the Presidential Address will be delivered to the People’s Majlis, in accordance with Article 84 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, which has traditionally been observed as a Government holiday.
Mandated under Article 84 of the Constitution, the Presidential Address outlines the state of the nation and sets out the Government’s strategic priorities for the year ahead. Senior Government officials, the Chief Justice, members of the diplomatic corps and other distinguished guests are expected to attend the sitting at the People’s Majlis.
