A 249 kWp solar–diesel–battery hybrid power system with a 344 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is being installed in Baa Kendhoo to enhance grid stability and reduce dependence on diesel fuel, according to The Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Once operational, the system is expected to save 117,181 litres of diesel annually and cut 287 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, contributing to cleaner and more reliable energy supply for the island.

The ministry stated that the project supports President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s target of achieving 33 per cent renewable electricity generation by 2028, marking another step in expanding sustainable energy infrastructure across island communities.
