State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has begun dispatching generator sets to 12 islands as part of preparations to meet increased electricity demand during the upcoming peak season.

According to STELCO, the initiative is part of its annual planning to ensure reliable and sustainable electricity services nationwide. The company said preparations for this year’s peak season are already underway, with a focus on strengthening generation capacity in island powerhouses.

Under the project, 12 new generator sets will be delivered to 12 islands, comprising units with capacities of 600 kilowatts, 800 kilowatts and 1,000 kilowatts. STELCO said the generators will be transported and installed ahead of Ramadan to ensure uninterrupted power supply during periods of high demand.

The company said the deployment of the new generator sets is expected to improve the reliability of electricity services and enhance overall service quality for island communities.

In addition, STELCO confirmed that a 1,200-kilowatt generator set at the Vilimalé powerhouse has already been commissioned and is currently in operation as part of peak season preparations. The company said the new unit has increased generation capacity in Vilimalé and will help ensure stable electricity supply on the island.
