MP for Vilimalé Constituency, Mohamed Ismail, has stressed the importance of electing Government-backed candidates in the upcoming local council elections for effective island development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the campaign office for PNC candidates in Vilimalé, Ismail said that actions taken by some island and atoll councils have obstructed Government projects, ultimately making citizens bear the cost of stalled development.

He emphasised that councils led by Government-backed candidates would work closely with the administration to ensure smooth implementation of projects and to ensure that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Presidential vows are fulfilled.

Ismail highlighted that several key development projects have already been signed for Vilimalé and the Greater Malé region, and timely delivery depends on electing Government-aligned representatives.

He noted that while previous administrations failed to bring planned developments to Vilimalé, citizens have witnessed significant progress under President Dr Muizzu’s leadership.

The ceremony was attended by PNC candidates for Vilimalé, Malé City Mayor candidate Moosa Ali Jaleel, as well as MPs and ministers.
