Member of Parliament for North Machangolhi constituency Ibrahim Mohamed has voiced support for People’s National Congress (PNC)’s Major General (Rtd) Moosa Ali Jaleel, describing him as the most suitable candidate contesting for the post of Mayor of Malé City.
In an interview with MMTV at a PNC event held at the party’s headquarters yesterday, MP Ibrahim said Jaleel stands out among the candidates due to his ability to manage administrative responsibilities and provide stable leadership for the capital.
The MP said effective governance in Malé City depends on constructive engagement between the city council and the central Government, particularly as several national development initiatives directly affect the capital. He noted that coordination at council level would be important to ensure that projects are implemented without unnecessary delays.
Referring to housing initiatives, MP Ibrahim cited the Government’s initiative to allocate 15,000 land plots to Malé residents, stating that such programmes require administrative consistency and institutional cooperation. He said alignment between the council and the Government would help facilitate the timely delivery of these commitments.
MP Ibrahim also highlighted Jaleel’s personal attributes, describing him as a leader of strong character and discipline. He said Malé City’s role as the country’s main business and commercial centre requires leadership capable of overseeing complex development processes while maintaining public order.
He added that members of parliament are prepared to support development efforts through legislative means where required, noting that major housing and infrastructure projects rely on coordinated efforts across multiple levels of Government.
