A new GP clinic in Malé area will open at FDC’s Amaan Udhares Tower in March, Hulhumalé Hospital has said.

A spokesperson for the hospital said the population in Hulhumalé Phase II has been steadily increasing, resulting in growing demand for healthcare services in the area. The spokesperson noted that ongoing efforts are underway to expand and strengthen services to meet this demand.

The new GP clinic will be located on the first floor of Amaan Udhares Tower 6 and forms part of the Government’s initiative to expand access to primary healthcare services. The space allocated for the clinic was officially handed over to the Malé City Group of Hospitals in December last year, with preparations now underway for its opening.

Health authorities said the GP clinic initiative is intended to ease congestion at major hospitals by redirecting non-critical cases to community-level facilities. The clinics are expected to play an important role during periods of increased patient numbers, such as seasonal influenza outbreaks, by providing accessible frontline care and reducing pressure on specialised hospital services.

The GP clinics will offer services including consultations with general practitioners, sample collection for laboratory tests, and X-ray services. The first GP clinic in the Malé area was opened in Maafannu, while an additional GP clinic operates at Hiyaa flats. Another GP clinic is also being set up in Henveiru.
