Bank of Maldives (BML) has completed five staff-led community projects under BML Islamic’s Community Impact Grant, with two additional initiatives currently in progress.
The grant programme was introduced in 2025 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of BML Islamic and allows bank staff to collaborate with local organisations to carry out community-based projects. The completed initiatives focus on two priority areas identified under the programme: education and the environment.
The completed projects include the establishment of an outdoor reading and study area at Seenu Atoll School, featuring seating, tables and a shaded structure to support reading, group study and quiet learning activities.
At Thaa Atoll School, a new outer boundary wall and a dedicated sand and water play area have been developed to enhance safety and create a more engaging environment for students. Another initiative at Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll School involved the installation of benches within the school premises to improve comfort and accessibility for students, staff, parents and visitors.
In the health sector, a student resource hub has been established at Dharumavantha Hospital to support medical education and training. The facility provides access to textbooks, digital learning tools and laboratory equipment to assist students and trainees in research and practical learning.
The fifth project saw the construction of a walkway at Muraidhoo School, improving safe and all-weather access between classrooms, administrative offices and outdoor areas, and supporting a more organised school environment.
BML stated that the Community Impact Grant enables staff to take an active role in community development by identifying local needs and working with partner institutions to address them.
