Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced an increase in monthly foreign transaction limits on its credit cards, with the revised limits set to take effect from 1 February.

According to the bank, the updated limits apply across its Classic, Gold and Platinum credit cards. Under the new structure, the monthly foreign transaction limit for Classic credit cards has been raised from USD 750 to USD 1,400, while the limit for Gold credit cards has increased from USD 750 to USD 1,500. Platinum credit card holders will see their monthly foreign transaction limit doubled, increasing from USD 1,500 to USD 3,000.

The changes are aimed at providing customers with greater flexibility when making foreign currency transactions, particularly for travel, online payments and overseas expenses.

The revision follows an announcement made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in September 2025, in which he stated that foreign transaction limits on BML credit cards would be increased from February 2026.

These changes form part of efforts to improve dollar access for citizens and businesses. The Foreign Currency Act, which came into effect on 1 January 2025, is a key element of this policy.
