Business Centre Corporation (BCC) has conducted the Hiyala Expo, a women’s craftsmanship exhibition, in two islands of Haa Alifu Atoll, drawing strong public participation and highlighting opportunities for women-led home businesses.
The expos were held in Dhidhdhoo and Ihavandhoo, with more than 1,500 visitors recorded across both events. According to Business Centre Corporation, over 17 female artists and entrepreneurs participated, showcasing and selling locally produced crafts and goods.
The Hiyala Expo in Ihavandhoo was held yesterday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and the Dhidhdhoo expo was held on Friday in collaboration with the Dhidhdhoo IslandCouncil, running from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Both the event were open to women entrepreneurs seeking to market and sell their products directly to the public.
Visitors and participants noted the benefits of hosting such exhibitions in the islands, citing improved market access for women entrepreneurs and greater visibility for locally produced goods. BCC said the initiative is part of its efforts to promote and support small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly women-led businesses.
BCC said it has planned a series of activities this year to expand opportunities for small businesses across the Maldives, with further initiatives also aimed at connecting local entrepreneurs to markets beyond the islands.
