The Ministry of Education has announced that the Edexcel A-Level May/June examination series will resume in the Maldives from this year, after being suspended locally since 2019.

According to the ministry, the decision was taken to ease the burden on private candidates who sit for the examinations independently. The ministry said the suspension of the May/June series had resulted in candidates travelling overseas to take the exams, incurring average costs of more than MVR 30,000 for travel and accommodation.

The resumption of the May/June examinations in the Maldives is intended to reduce financial and logistical challenges faced by candidates, while improving access to international examinations within the country.

The ministry said further details regarding the examination will be announced by the Department of Public Examinations from 4 February. The Ministry also clarified that the resumption of the May/June exams will not affect the existing October/November examination cycle, which will continue to be held as usual.
