The MNDF Coast Guard has taken two Sri Lankan fishing vessels into custody for operating illegally within the Maldivian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The vessels were intercepted during a joint surveillance operation by the MNDF Coast Guard and MNDF Air Corps at around 14:02 on 1 February, while located approximately 109 nautical miles east of Haa Alifu Kelaa.

Following the interception, the two vessels are being escorted to Kulhudhuffushi City Harbour and will be handed over to the Maldives Police Service for further investigation.
