President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inspected progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project during a site visit today.

The President visited the ongoing roadworks and was briefed by relevant authorities on the status of the project. He was accompanied by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib, along with Government officials. Senior officials from the project contractor, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), were also present at the site.

Under Phase Two of the project, MTCC is carrying out asphalt works on a 250-metre stretch of road from the local market area to the North Harbour.

MTCC stated that the road sub-base works are already underway, with the application of the aggregate base course layer and asphalt surfacing scheduled to begin this week. The installation of street lights and road signage is also expected to continue during the same period.

The company said several key components of the project have already been completed, including land reclamation, sheet piling and panel installation. Works related to cable junctions, as well as the installation of water and sewerage pipelines, have also been finalised. MTCC added that the project is scheduled to be completed before Ramadan.

The entire Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project covers a total length of 1,088 metres, extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbour. The first phase of the project, spanning 140 metres, has already been completed.

Upon full completion, the project is expected to modernise roads in the market area, enhance pedestrian safety, improve stormwater management to reduce flooding, and ease congestion in the harbour area, facilitating smoother transportation of goods within Malé City.
