President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Malé following his official visit to Germany, undertaken at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
During official talks, both leaders agreed to sustain the momentum of dialogue established during the visit, focusing on expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest through enhanced high-level exchanges.
At the Maldives–Germany Business Roundtable, German companies were briefed on investment opportunities in the Maldives. In his remarks, the President highlighted progress on economic reforms and invited German businesses to explore emerging opportunities as the Maldives diversifies its economy. The roundtable concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Visit Maldives and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH to strengthen cooperation in destination promotion and marketing.
The President also delivered keynote addresses at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he spoke on the Maldives’ experience in climate change adaptation, and at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), where he outlined the role of the ocean in foreign policy.
The visit coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. An official reception was held to mark the milestone, attended by senior German officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and Maldivians residing in Germany. President Dr Muizzu also met with members of the Maldivian community, engaging with them on their experiences and concerns.
