The Maldives has recorded its highest-ever daily tourist arrival figure, surpassing a record set earlier this month.

Statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment show that 11,136 tourists arrived in the Maldives on 14 January. This exceeds the previous daily record of 10,462 arrivals recorded on 7 February.

February has proven to be a record-breaking month for the tourism sector. On 1 February, the country registered 10,253 arrivals, which at the time marked the highest single-day total. That figure had surpassed the previous high of 10,213 arrivals recorded on 11 February 2024.

As of now, a total of 349,990 tourists have arrived in the Maldives this year, reflecting a 7.6 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

China remains the leading source market, accounting for 14.2 per cent of total arrivals. The surge coincides with the Chinese New Year holiday period, traditionally one of the busiest travel seasons for the market. Russia follows with 11.5 per cent of arrivals, while Italy and the United Kingdom each account for 9.8 per cent.

Tourism authorities expect the upward trend to continue, building on last year’s milestone when the Maldives recorded 2.2 million tourist arrivals for the first time in its history.
