Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has officially operationalised Terminal 2 at Velana International Airport (VIA), with all domestic departures and arrivals now operating from the new facility.

The move is a significant milestone in the airport’s ongoing infrastructure development and is aimed at improving passenger convenience while strengthening inter-island connectivity across the Maldives.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Cabinet Ministers, members of the MACL Board, the Executive Committee, senior management and staff who led the transfer of domestic operations to the new terminal.

MACL stated that the dedicated domestic terminal has been introduced to streamline travel processes and accommodate growing demand for domestic air travel. The operationalisation of Terminal 2 is expected to enable more efficient passenger flow and deliver a smoother, more organised travel experience.

Terminal 2 features a range of new amenities, including a dedicated children’s play area and expanded food and beverage options within the boarding area. International brands such as Costa Coffee, Dairy Queen and Gloria Jean's are now available to domestic travellers. Newly developed prayer rooms have also been incorporated to provide inclusive facilities catering to passengers’ needs.

Passengers travelling on domestic flights have been advised to proceed directly to Terminal 2 and to confirm flight details with their respective airlines prior to travel.
