Customs reports MVR 325 million in trade revenue for December

The Maldives Customs Service has reported that revenue collected from imports and exports totalled MVR 325 million in December 2025, with edible items accounting for the largest share of imported goods during the month.

According to statistics released by Customs, goods worth MVR 5.3 billion were imported into the Maldives in December, while exports during the same period totalled MVR 204 million.

Edible items accounted for the largest category of imports by value, at MVR 1.14 billion, followed by machinery and electrical equipment worth MVR 992 million, fuel valued at MVR 890 million, chemicals worth MVR 300 million, boulders and related items worth MVR 135 million, and vehicles and vehicle products valued at MVR 82 million.

China remained the largest source of imports by value in December, followed by Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Customs data showed imports valued at MVR 943 million from China, MVR 766 million from Oman and MVR 688 million from the UAE.

Exports during the month were dominated by fish and fish products. Frozen fish exports were valued at MVR 90 million, canned fish at MVR 39 million, frozen yellowfin tuna loins at MVR 32 million, and non-edible fish products at MVR 8 million.

Thailand was the largest export destination by value in December, with exports totalling MVR 121 million. This was followed by the United Kingdom ( MVR 33 million), France ( MVR 8 million), Bangladesh (MVR 7 million) and India (MVR 6 million).

Customs statistics also showed an increase in vessel movements in December compared to the previous year. A total of 143 vessels arrived in the Maldives in December 2025, up from 120 arrivals recorded in December 2024. Departures also rose, with 174 vessels leaving Maldivian ports in December 2025, compared to 120 departures during the same month last year.
