Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer has stated that financial and economic improvements achieved under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu are clearly visible, despite continued criticism from opposition figures.

He made the remarks while speaking to MMTV during a door-to-door campaign conducted by the People's National Congress (PNC) in West Henveiru, attended by President Dr Muizzu.

Zameer cited the utilisation of the Sovereign Development Fund in line with its original mandate as an example of the Administration’s responsible fiscal management. He said that as a result, foreign currency reserves held in the fund have increased by several million dollars.

The Minister added that arrangements have been made to use these funds to meet State debt obligations falling due this year, describing the move as part of a structured and disciplined financial strategy.

Addressing claims raised by opposition members, Zameer said that while various allegations are being circulated, the outcomes of the President’s economic policies are evident. He noted that efforts to facilitate small and medium enterprises are ongoing, with improvements already being observed.

The Minister also highlighted the President’s engagement with business leaders to identify practical measures to revitalise sectors that had remained stagnant for years and to address challenges faced by the private sector.

Responding to allegations related to monetary policy, Zameer said the Government has not resorted to monetary expansion. He emphasised that the President’s focus remains on strengthening and expanding the economy through sustainable measures rather than short-term solutions.

“The President has undertaken extensive efforts to expand tourism and further develop other sectors. The results of those efforts are now becoming visible,” he said.

Zameer further noted that while opposition parties have the right to submit complaints to the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Government does not exert influence over independent institutions. He stated that raising concerns through established mechanisms is a legitimate right, and affirmed that the Government continues to discharge its responsibilities in an accountable manner.
