President and PNC Leader Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the decentralisation system is being implemented in its intended form under the current Administration, describing the Government’s approach as a practical strengthening of local governance.

Speaking at the Dhiveheenge Raajje Taraweeh event held at Artificial Beach on Thursday night, the President said his Administration has prioritised reinforcing decentralised governance over the past two years, with a focus on expanding services and institutional authority at island level.

He said development initiatives have been rolled out across islands alongside the nationwide expansion of ATM services, including the establishment of fitness centres and outdoor gym facilities and children’s parks. The President also noted that steps have been taken to strengthen councils by enhancing their operational capacity and providing legal authority to Women’s Development Committees.

The President said decentralisation remains a core principle of PNC, adding that the present Administration has translated the concept into concrete action. He described the Government’s efforts as a comprehensive implementation of the decentralised governance framework.

Reaffirming his position, the President said the Administration takes pride in what he characterised as the effective execution of decentralisation policies across the country.
