President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 385 hectares of land have been reclaimed under the ongoing Rasmalé Land Reclamation Project, describing the initiative as a major component of the Government’s strategy to address housing challenges in the Maldives.

Speaking at the PNC’s Dhiveheenge Raajje Taraweeh event on last night, the President Dr Muizzu said reclamation works are progressing across multiple zones of the project site, with some segments fully completed and others advancing at pace. He said the target is to complete the project by the end of April.

The President stated that the reclaimed area is comparable in scale to the two phases of Hulhumalé, highlighting the significance of the development in expanding available residential land.

The Rasmalé project forms part of Government efforts to transform the housing sector through large-scale land reclamation and coastal protection works. According to the President, work is being carried out in phased segments, with three to four areas currently undergoing rapid development.

The President has previously announced plans to allocate 15,000 residential plots from the reclaimed land in Rasmalé, positioning the development as a long-term solution to housing demand in the Greater Malé Region.

The Rasmalé reclamation project officially commenced in December 2023. Upon completion, a total of 1,009 hectares of land are to be reclaimed for the development of Rasmalé as an eco-city.
