The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has initiated discussions to attract additional airlines to the Maldives amid ongoing disruptions to air travel linked to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the Ministry said it is closely monitoring regional developments, including airspace restrictions imposed in several Middle Eastern countries, which have affected international flight operations.
Acknowledging the importance of Middle Eastern routes to the Maldivian economy, the Ministry noted that travel from the region remains a key contributor to tourism and overall economic activity. It said efforts are underway to minimise disruptions for passengers travelling to and from the Maldives, as well as residents currently abroad.
The Ministry confirmed it is working closely with major airlines operating to the Maldives and coordinating with relevant international aviation authorities to manage schedule adjustments resulting from regional airspace closures.
While some airlines from the Middle East have revised their flight schedules, others continue to operate as planned. To mitigate the impact of reduced connectivity, the Ministry said discussions are also being held with airlines from Southeast Asia, East Asia and India to enhance route availability and maintain stable air links.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of aviation safety and service, stating that the Maldives will continue to position itself as a reliable and welcoming destination for travellers worldwide.
