Police recover over MVR 215,000 in 48 hours in Malé City

The Maldives Police Service has recovered more than MVR 215,000 in stolen property during operations carried out across the Greater Malé Region over the past 48-hours as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen safety and security in Malé City. 

Figures published by Henveiru, Galolhu and Maafannu Police Stations for 27–28 February 2026 show that a total of MVR 215,230.60 was recovered in connection with theft and robbery cases. Galolhu Police recorded the highest recovered amount at MVR 176,872.60. Henveiru Police recovered MVR 15,000 out of an estimated MVR 224,000 reported lost, while Maafannu Police recovered MVR 23,358 out of MVR 41,400 reported missing.

During the two-day period, police recorded 96 incidents across the three jurisdictions, with Galolhu reporting 35 cases, Maafannu 33 and Henveiru 28. A total of nine self-dispatched scenes were attended, while three arrests were made in total.

Officers also conducted extensive stop-and-search and patrol operations as part of ongoing crime prevention efforts. A total of 576 individuals were stopped and questioned across the capital, including 233 in Maafannu, 195 in Henveiru and 148 in Galolhu. Police responded to 65 emergency calls during the period.

More than 1,700 locations were checked across the three divisions, with 682 checks carried out in Galolhu, 578 in Maafannu and 447 in Henveiru. In addition, Maafannu Police attended 85 hotspot locations as part of targeted patrol operations.

Foot patrols exceeded 76 hours across the three jurisdictions, alongside traffic engagement activities and multiple public interactions aimed at strengthening cooperation with residents and businesses.

The Maldives Police Service said such operations will continue as part of sustained efforts to enhance public safety and deter criminal activity in the Greater Malé Region.
