EC releases voter registers for LC, WDC elections and referendum

The Elections Commission (EC) has published the voter registers for the upcoming Local Council, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections and the public referendum scheduled for 4 April. 

The Commission announced that complaints regarding voter registration details may be submitted from 10:00 a.m. today until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 4 March.

Complaints can be filed online through the Commission’s portal at my.elections.gov.mv. Voters may also verify their registration information by sending an SMS with “VR” followed by a space and their National ID number to 1414.

Six political parties are contesting the elections. A total of 626 councillors will be elected to island councils and 52 councillors to city councils. An equal number of members will also be elected to Women’s Development Committees.

According to the Commission, 294,937 individuals are eligible to vote in the polls, including 144,527 women and 150,410 men. The EC has urged voters to review their details and submit any corrections within the stipulated period.
