Mohamed Ishan --
Maldives Monetary Authority has appointed Mohamed Ishan as the head of its Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), the authority announced on Thursday.
Ishan, who previously served as Head of Finance at the central bank, was selected following an internal recruitment process among MMA staff and interviews with shortlisted candidates.
The FIU operates under the MMA to strengthen efforts to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism. The unit was established under the country’s legal framework on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing.
A qualified and experienced chartered accountant, Ishan is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and an affiliate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives.
Ishan joined the MMA in 2014 and has since held several senior roles within the institution, including Head of the Corporate Accounts Section and Head of the Financial Controls Division, where he oversaw key financial management and internal operational responsibilities.
Under Maldivian law, the authority to appoint or dismiss the head of the FIU rests with the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority.
