The Maldives Zakat House has announced that MVR 5.4 million has been received as Zakat al-Fitr during the first 15 days of Ramadan this year.

This marks the highest amount collected during the first 15 days of Ramadan in the past three years.

Information shared by the Zakat House shows that a total of MVR 5,482,171 has been received so far as Zakat al-Fitr.

Amounts collected as Zakat al-Fitr during the first 15 days of Ramadan in recent years are as follows:

  • 2026 – MVR 5,482,171
  • 2025 – MVR 4,460,199
  • 2024 – MVR 2,626,587
  • 2023 – MVR 2,794,579

During the first week of Ramadan this year alone, MVR 1.3 million was received as Zakat al-Fitr.

This year, Zakat payments can be made online through seven digital platforms. Arrangements have also been made for contributions to be made in person at the Islamic Centre and at City and Island Councils across the country.

Councils are using a specially developed Fitr Portal to process payments made either in cash or in the form of food items. Payments are recorded in real time by authorised staff, and contributors receive an SMS confirmation immediately after completing their payment, indicating the amount paid as Zakat al-Fitr. Any additional Sadaqah contributions are also included in the message.

Last Ramadan, Zakat al-Fitr contributions reached a record MVR 13.2 million. It also marked the first time the funds were distributed equally among all registered recipients listed in the national low-income registry. Each eligible individual received MVR 4,500 as part of the Government’s policy to ensure equitable distribution of Zakat funds.
