Applications open for land under ‘Goathi Gedhoruveriya’ scheme --
Applications have opened for land under the “Goathi Gedhoruveriya” housing programme for individuals whose spouses already own housing, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced.
Applications opened today and will remain available until 11:59 p.m. on April 30, with submissions to be made through the Boahiyaavahikan Portal, for a 1,000 plots under each category.
Successful applicants will receive plots measuring 1,250 square feet. The scheme has two categories: residents of Malé City and residents of other islands currently living in Malé.
Applicants must submit supporting documents, including proof of property ownership if land or flats are already registered in their name. Malé residents must also provide a document from a Government agency confirming the date of their registration in the city. Employment certificates from Government or private institutions, or documents from educational institutions, may also be submitted to verify the applicant’s period of residence in Malé.
Further details are available through the ministry’s hotline numbers.
In addition, the government will introduce a special “Binveriya” scheme for individuals who previously received land through joint applications but wish to submit individual applications and relinquish their joint plots. Applications for the scheme will open from March 24 to April 30.
The housing initiatives were announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his Presidential Address at the inaugural session of Parliament earlier this year. Housing programmes launched in January had initially made individuals ineligible to apply for flats or land if their spouse already owned housing in the Malé area, prompting the introduction of a separate programme.
