President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has clarified that he will exclusively endorse candidates from the People’s National Congress (PNC) in the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections.

The President made these remarks during an interview with MMTV following door-to-door campaign activities in the South Hulhumalé constituency. While the President has been conducting similar outreach across Malé, Villimalé, and Hulhumalé throughout the campaign, he noted that he chose to speak publicly to address specific misinformation circulating within the community.

The clarification follows reports from residents in South Hulhumalé that a candidate had claimed the President was backing a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) representative in the area.

Responding to the reports, President Dr Muizzu dismissed the claim as false and stated that his endorsement in the upcoming elections will be limited to candidates contesting under the PNC ticket. He added that he would not support candidates representing the MDP, other political parties or independent candidates.

The President also stated that he respects the party system and urged the public not to accept claims suggesting he would endorse candidates outside the PNC lineup.

Referring specifically to the South Hulhumalé race, President Dr Muizzu confirmed that his full support is for the PNC candidate Ahmed Ubaid. The constituency is also being contested by a candidate representing the MDP and an independent candidate.
