The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has introduced a separate application process for persons with disabilities under the 'Family Housing' programme implemented as part of the 'Housing for All' policy.
In an announcement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry stated that applications for this category will be opened, noting that it is given special priority under the housing programme. The announcement also outlines the eligibility criteria, application procedures, the point allocation system and the method used to determine the allocation of housing units.
Under the criteria, applicants must be persons with disabilities whose financial situation does not allow them to reside in the Greater Malé Region, but who need to relocate to the region in order to access medical care or treatment that is not available in their home island or atoll.
Eligibility also applies to persons with disabilities who have been receiving treatment in the Greater Malé Region for at least one year. The criteria further include individuals who were already living in the Greater Malé Region at the time the regulation came into force due to medical vulnerability and have been undergoing treatment in the region for a minimum of one year.
In addition, persons with disabilities who have been continuously residing in the Greater Malé Region for at least five years are also eligible to apply under this category.
Applications under the regulation will open at 11:00 a.m. on 24 March 2026 and close at 11:59 p.m. on 30 April 2026.
Applications must be submitted through the Ministry’s Boahiyaavahikan Emmenah portal. The announcement states that the documents required from applicants under this category are listed in the annex attached to the notice.
