The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract to construct a new tertiary-level building at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health. State Minister for Health Ismail Abdulla signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry, while MTCC Deputy Managing Director Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yoosuf signed on behalf of the company.

The ceremony was attended by South Kulhudhuffushi MP Farhath Mohamed and Chief Executive Officer of Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital Nazima Ali.

According to the Ministry of Health, the project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will involve relocating the hospital’s operating theatre, Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), and several other services to another location within the hospital premises.

The second phase will focus on the construction of the new tertiary-level building aimed at upgrading Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to provide tertiary healthcare services.

Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital serves as the main regional hospital in the northern region, providing healthcare services to residents of Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu atolls and surrounding islands. The Government has stated that upgrading the hospital to tertiary level is part of its commitment to strengthen healthcare services in the region.
