The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has confirmed that fuel prices for fishermen will remain unchanged.
The announcement comes after the State Trading Organization (STO) revised the price of fuel supplied to businesses, a move linked to fluctuations in global oil markets. The change initially led to adjustments in the price of fuel supplied through MIFCO’s fish purchasing centres and fuel supply vessels.
However, MIFCO stated that arrangements have been made to ensure fishermen continue receiving fuel at subsidised rates under the Government’s “Fahi Hakatha” programme. Through this arrangement, the company will maintain the previously announced price structure for fuel supplied to the fisheries sector.
Under the rates finalised on 5 March 2026, diesel will continue to be supplied to fishing vessels at MVR 16.54 per litre. Fishing vessels that deliver more than three tonnes of fish will receive diesel at a reduced rate of MVR 16.04 per litre.
MIFCO added that diesel sold to the general public will remain priced at MVR 17.54 per litre.
The company stated that maintaining the fuel price for fishermen is part of measures introduced by the Government to ease operational costs for the fisheries sector and support the continued productivity of fishing vessels.
