President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Government is closely monitoring the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with efforts underway to assess its potential impact on the Maldives and implement appropriate response measures.
Speaking at the press briefing today, the President said that detailed updates on the situation were shared during a press briefing by the Special Cabinet Committee established to evaluate the effects of the conflict yesterday, where ministers outlined both ongoing and planned actions to mitigate risks to the country and its citizens.
He noted that Government is assessing the economic and social implications of the conflict, including its impact on tourism, fuel supply and food security, while exploring measures to minimise disruptions.
The Government has also been working with relevant institutions to analyse potential scenarios and determine the most effective responses, including measures to support citizens and safeguard the economy. Efforts are ongoing to ensure the continued availability of essential goods and services, while maintaining financial stability. Particular focus is being placed on maintaining stable supply chains and identifying alternative sources for essential imports.
Additionally, developments in the tourism sector are being closely observed, as the conflict has affected travel patterns, particularly from regions linked to the Middle East. At the same time, steps are being taken to ensure adequate fuel reserves and diversified supply routes, alongside efforts to strengthen food security through expanded sourcing and storage.
The Special Cabinet Committee, formed on 28 February 2026, continues to provide regular updates as the situation evolves, with the Government maintaining that its priority is to protect the interests and well-being of Maldivian citizens amid ongoing global uncertainties.
