Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan has said the turnout during First Lady Sajidha Mohamed’s visit to Addu City reflects public recognition of the services delivered by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the city.
Speaking to MMTV during the visit, Minister Ihusaan said large crowds gathered to welcome the First Lady upon her arrival, while many also attended events held during the visit, describing the response as an indication that residents value the development initiatives carried out in Addu.
He noted that Addu City has historically supported development and remains a community that understands and prioritises progress, adding that public sentiment is shaped by expectations for continued improvements in infrastructure and services.
Minister Ihusaan also referred to the city’s political landscape, stating that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has previously held a majority in the Addu City and parliamentary seats, but said there is growing dissatisfaction among residents over perceived gaps in development.
He expressed confidence that voters in Addu would support candidates who align with the Government’s development agenda in the upcoming Local Council and WDC elections, with the aim of advancing projects and meeting the expectations of residents.
