Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is prioritising national interest over short-term political gains, citing policy decisions and reforms introduced by the administration.

Speaking at a campaign event in Noonu Velidhoo ahead of the upcoming Local Council and WDC elections, Minister Saeed said the President has focused on implementing reforms in line with public expectations, noting that efforts are aimed at strengthening stability and supporting social and economic development in the country.

He highlighted measures such as the ban on vaping and efforts to reduce tobacco use as examples of decisions taken in the public interest, stating that such actions were implemented without consideration for potential political consequences, reflecting a focus on long-term national benefit.

Minister Saeed also pointed to initiatives introduced since the President assumed office, including the expansion of air ambulance services, increased ATM access, upgrading of council infrastructure and the establishment of policing services in islands, adding that these efforts have contributed to improving public services and living conditions.

Referring to the economic situation, he said the Administration had taken steps to address financial challenges and stabilise the economy, while noting that ongoing reforms are guided by a broader vision to transform the Maldives into a developed nation by 2040.
