Belarusian airline Belavia is planning to launch direct flights to Malé from August, as airlines expand services to the Maldives and adjust routes in response to ongoing disruptions affecting global aviation.
The airline is expected to operate an initial series of six to eight flights as part of a trial phase to assess demand and operational performance, while also working with tourism partners as it explores opportunities in the Maldivian market.
The development comes as several international carriers increase capacity and revise schedules to maintain connectivity, particularly amid disruptions affecting airspace in parts of the Middle East. British Airways has increased weekly flights from three to four with further expansion under consideration, while Edelweiss Air has scheduled around 20 flights to Malé in April to meet seasonal demand.
Air India has also temporarily expanded operations between March 10 and 18, operating 78 additional flights across multiple routes including Malé, deploying Airbus A320neo aircraft and adding approximately 17,660 seats while using alternative routings to bypass affected airspace in West Asia.
Meanwhile, Aeroflot has introduced additional services to Malé and other leisure destinations to accommodate rising demand and offset cancellations, with Maldives Airports Company Limited noting increased private jet arrivals and greater use of alternative air routes during the period.
